For the inventions, it was steamboats that helped the Midwest. It's capable of bringing tons of cargo for the sake of better trading benefits. For the developments, rail lines were made from the Midwest to the rest of the other countries. As time went by, interstate highways linked a lot of states in the Midwest for easier means of transportation, too.
